Sex and the vibrator

Like most bloggers, I get PR pitches all the time. 90% are utter crap and don’t even get a response. About 9% are actually heartfelt well- researched pitches, but still I turn them down. I just don’t do reviews, giveaways, or sponsored posts. Not my thing, but thank you very much anyway.

Such was the case when I received an email from Ladygasm. I even hit reply and started my standard, “Thank you, but no thank you” email. Then I stopped. Maybe this might be a good fit, and let me tell you why.

First the person who reached out to me, said something that kind of drew me in. He said; “I in fact don’t believe that pleasure as it pertains to women’s sexuality is a luxury – I feel it is a right. So [most companies]  price their products out of the reach of most women, or at least they attach a luxury price tag that makes buying the products a stretch for normal people’s budgets. In response, I developed a line of toys that is equally beautiful and useful, but with non-luxury price-tags.” OK, some of that is marketing speak, but look at the part I bolded. That should be a sexual mantra. Seriously, folks.

Second. I absolutely, whole-heartedly believe in being ‘Sex Positive’. This doesn’t mean I just talk frankly with my children about sex, but I accept sex as normal, non-shameful part of life – including fetishes. GASP! I know fetishes have gotten a lot press lately with the bucket o’crap that is 50 Shades of Grey. Perhaps this is the one good thing the book has done – women are finally starting to re-frame the discussion on sexual pleasure.  We are going beyond headlines that scream “10 ways to please your man!” to ‘Hey, what do you REALLY like in the bedroom.’

Recently, I have got to meet a lot of people who are willing to talk about sex and fetishes in a very frank and open way. It was an amazing experience, and I was inspired! I want to join the conversation, very much. That is why I will be doing a new feature on my blog – “Saturday Sex” – and it will be AWESOME.

I want you to be involved. Email me, give me ideas, share a story, whatever you have. First the boring rules!

  • Nothing is off limits, as long it is between consenting adults.
  • However, I am not here to ‘out’ people either, so if you wish to remain anonymous, then you will.
  • Neither will I write stories about people who haven’t given their consent to be written about.

Don’t mistake me, this is kind of hard for me. I have parents, family members, and co-workers who read this blog. My grandmother referred to sex as ‘Wifely Duty’. But I feel that I need to ‘walk the walk’ if I am going to ‘talk the talk’.

We start tomorrow! Woo!

The first two weeks will be sponsored by Ladygasm, who sent me some products to review. Remember when I confessed I had never owned a vibrator? Well, that’s changed, and let me tell you I am a convert. More about that tomorrow.

So thanks to Ladygasm for the inspiration, and the products, and now….let’s talk sex.

this post is not sponsored so no FCC declaration, but you will see one tomorrow
